\nThe panel depicts the moment when the Baby Jesus, wrapped in swaddling clothes, is laid in the manger, in accordance with the Gospel passage from Luke (2:7):

\nThe composition is framed by two arches with circular floral decorations that draw the eye to the center of the scene. Here, the heads of the ox and the donkey touch and lean toward the Child, enclosed in a richly decorated manger. The figures are stylized, devoid of a defined environmental context, in keeping with the symbolic language of Romanesque art, which aimed to convey spiritual rather than realistic meanings.
\nMariaLuisa, wife of “the Founder” Eugenio Barbieri, reinterpreted this scene with her unmistakable mixed technique of pyrography and oil paints, maintaining the linearity and stylization of the original. The result is a simple yet meaningful iconographic image, where the engraved lines recall the solemnity and purity of the original scene. The colors, applied with discretion, enhance the decorative details of the arches and the manger, while the ox and the donkey emerge as silent guardians of the newborn.
